Lament

Sleep and death, the dusky

Around this head swoop all night long;

Eternity’s icy

Would swallow the golden

Of man; against horrible

His purple body is shattered.

And the dark voice

Over the sea.

Sister of stormy sadness,

Look a timid dinghy goes

Under stars,

The silent face of the night.
