Water Picture

In the pond in the parkall things are doubled;

Long buildings hang andwriggle gently.  Chimneysare bent legs bouncingon clouds below.  A flagwags like a fishhookdown there in the sky.

The arched stone bridgeis an eye, with underlidin the water.  In its lensdip crinkled heads with hatsthat don’t fall off.  Dogs go by,barking on their backs.

A baby, taken to feed theducks, dangles upside-down,a pink balloon for a buoy.

Treetops deploy a haze ofcherry bloom for roots,where birds coast belly-upin the glass bowl of a hill;from its bottom a bunchof peanut munching childrenis suspended by their sneakers, waveringly.

A swan, with twin necksforming the figure three,steers between two dimpledtowers doubled.  Fondlyhissing, she kisses herself,and all the scene is troubled:water-windows splinter,tree-limbs tangle, the bridgefolds like a fan.
