In time of silver
The earth puts forth new life again,
Green grasses
And flowers lift their heads,
And over all the
The wonder spreads Of Life, Of Life, Of life!
In time of silver
The butterflies lift silken
To catch a rainbow cry,
And trees put forth new leaves to
In joy beneath the
As down the
Passing boys and
Go singing, too, In time of silver rain When spring And life Are new.
Langston wrote this poem in dedication to Lorraine Hansberry when she told him she had cancer. He was heavily influenced by her works and was also inspired to write; "Dream Deferred" which has the line "A Raisin In The Sun" after her classic play.
