On the Beach at Fontana

Wind whines and whines the shingle,

The crazy pierstakes groan;

A senile sea numbers each

Slimesilvered stone.

From whining wind and

Grey sea I wrap him

And touch his trembling fineboned

And boyish arm.

Around us fear,

Darkness of fear

And in my heart how deep unending Ache of love!

James Augustine Aloysius Joyce (2 February 1882 – 13 January 1941) was an Irish novelist, short story writer, poet, teacher, and literary critic
