Though storms have raged
Though rains have lashed
Against this noble tree
So tall and steadfast it still stands
Its leafy arms spread wide
Birds in it's fine green hair can safely nest.
Yet from it's cousins' timbers all across the world
Both mighty ships and lovers ' seats are built.
Sweethearts have carved their names on its knarled trunk
Though strife and pestilence
It still grows high and wide
It watches life grow old and love grow strong.
Wars pass it by, life comes and fades away
When I am no longer on this earth
Its leafy shade will sooth and comfort still
Stay strong, dear friend,
and oversee another hundred years
